CLOSET STAPLE: The Statement Necklace

Statement necklaces are among my must-have closet staples because they are extremely useful for any occasion. I can't even begin to explain how obsessed I am with accessories. To me, accessories either make or break an outfit. You can wear a pretty dress by itself but that's all it's ever going to be -- a pretty dress. However, add an elegant statement necklace to the mix and it will instantly elevate your entire look, from a simple outfit into a definite showstopper.

My outfit for today is a perfect example of the power of a statement necklace. I was too lazy to get "dolled up" so I literally just grabbed the first things that I could from my closet (a nautical striped top, white jeans, and sandals). Luckily, I just threw on one of my many statement necklaces and it looks like I actually put effort into this look!

Like I said, never underestimate a nice little necklace. Without it, my outfit would have been plain and somewhat boring, but just by adding that one little piece, it transformed into something that looks a little more stylish.

As with all of my previous "closet staples" blog posts, versatility is the name of the game. A statement necklace can be worn with anything -- a basic top, a printed tee, a sweater, collared shirts . . . Anything! The best part is that you won't even have to splurge too much because costume jewelry is so affordable nowadays.
