NORMCORE: The Paradoxical Trend

"NORMCORE".

This word has been dominating fashion articles, magazines, and blogs all over the world because it has been labelled as the new "trend". But what is it, exactly?

Simply put, normcore is basically an "anti-fashion" statement that strips people of their individuality and self-expression. It involves dressing up in extremely plain clothes with as little detail as possible in order to blend in with the rest of the normal crowd. While this can prove to be beneficial to all of us on those days when we're simply too lazy to dress up (we can just say we're dressing "normcore" instead of admitting we were too tired to make an effort), I can't help but notice the irony of the whole thing.

First of all, normcore claims to be an "anti-fashion" statement, and yet at the same time it IS a fashion statement. It goes against all trends, but it is also a trend in itself. Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous? It is a complete paradox.

Personally, I'm not feeling this so-called "trend" and I'm hoping it will go away soon. Fashion is supposed to be a fun and creative tool to express yourself through your own personal way of mixing and matching clothes, and to be honest, I can't help but feel that "normcore" is trying to destroy that.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to wake up to a world where everyone is dressed in baggy jeans, no-brand sneakers, and plain white shirts. It kinda takes the fun out of things.
