Decluttering Your Life & Closet

You need to learn how to select the people you mingle with just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, choose which people are going to be in it. That's the only thing you should be trying to control -- who is going to be in your life.

I don't know about you, but my closet can get pretty messy at times. As time goes on, things end up all over the place, and I accumulate clothes that I don't even wear anymore. The same thing happens to our personal lives with regards to the people we accumulate in our circle of peers. We keep people in our lives simply because we're so used to them being there, without taking into consideration if they're actually adding value to us in the long run.

So starting today, make it a habit to rid your life of people that are not beneficial to you, the same way you would rid your closet of items that are no longer of any use. Like that friend you used to be close to but has since betrayed your trust? She's just like that "leather" bag you purchased a few months ago, which turned out to be not leather at all, but made from synthetic materials. Get rid of them both! And that ex you keep going back to because you have no other options? He's like that pair of Steve Madden sandals that you've had and worn for years. The one whose soles are cracking from being overused, but you can't seem to part with it because it's your favorite pair of gladiators. Well, guess what? It's time to throw them out! Do yourself a favor and purchase a new pair. Try upgrading from a Steve Madden to a Stuart Weitzman. And you know those people in your life that are only there when they need something from you? Cut them out of your life, fast. They're like that pair of Crocs you keep wearing because they're so comfortable. Well, here's a wake-up call for you: Those Crocs look hideous on you! It's time to let them go.

Always remember that quality is better than quantity. After all, a closet that houses only five authentic Chanel bags is better than a closet filled with twenty knockoffs.

  1. I love the metaphors in this post- especially the one about upgrading shoes! I need to start de-cluttering my closet a lot more, I think there's stuff in there that hasn't seen the light of day in years!

  5. Such a great post girl. I could not agree more on all counts but particularly when it comes to getting rid of negative people who just bring you down/hold you back/are constantly creating chaos in your life. We're only here for so long and we deserve to be happy and treated well...

  6. I have JUST started making an effort to clean out, organize, and sell what I don't wear every other month. My goodness, it has made a world of difference... although there is still the occasional item I cry over getting rid of... ;)

  7. I've recently did a closet clean-up for 4 hours. The clothes that I got rid were so many that I can put up my own booth in BU this summer. Haha! Love this post. (Parang puro hugot) But I can totally relate to it. :)

Have a nice day, Kylie! :)

  15. I love this post, I've recently 'got rid of' some friends who weren't really friends at all, and I feel so much better for it! I also had a massive clear out of my house too. No need for rubbish to hold me back :)

  16. So inspiring Kylie! Really agree with your thoughts in here. Actually getting rid of people and things that aren't worth keeping. I always believe that it matters not how many people or friends we have in our life, the people who counts most are those who accepts us for who we are and who stay with us honestly. I guess the same concept goes with the things we have in our closet. <3

    love lots,
